Author Candy Abbott
Hello, my friends!
I'm so glad you are digging deep enough into GavinGoodfellow.com to find me! In case you're curious about how a grandmother of four came to write youth fiction, here's the scoop (and maybe more about me than you really want to know):
Candy Abbott, author of Gavin Goodfellow: The Lure of Burnt Swamp, began researching this book in 2000 when she felt the call of God to write youth fiction.
"Our grandson was reading the first Harry Potter book. and I borrowed it to see what all the fuss was about. About a third of the way through, I had a fleeting thought: Somebody needs to write a Christian book that's just this much fun to read. Immediately, the Lord impressed three words in my spirit: You do it."
Candy's initial reaction, "But, Lord . . .," met with a gentle reminder that she was already doing many things she didn't know how to do because she had allowed God to stretch her beyond her comfort zone. She has been walking in obedience to the Holy Spirit's promptings since 1983.
Youth fiction is only part of Candy's literary calling. The third edition of her non-fiction book, Fruitbearer: What Can I Do for You, Lord?, has been completely updated and was re-released in 2006. As a contributing author, her short stories have been published in a wide variety of anthologies.
Candy and her husband Drew independently published Gavin and Fruitbearer through their company, Fruitbearer Publishing. Find out more at www.fruitbearer.com.
